9/11

I remember exactly what I was doing when I found out.  I was getting up and getting ready for school.  I was very far from New York so although it was early morning for me, it had been a few hours since the first plane hit.  I remember being in shock and thinking that it must be some kind of joke.  And then I had to call my mom and gently break the news to her because she hated bad news of any kind and might have gone the whole day without finding out.  Wow, as I write that I am confronted with the reality of my relationship with my mother…  I’m not old enough to remember where I was when Kennedy was shot, but now I know what is meant when people say that.
