Many disciplines equate your first taste of knowledge to that of learning a new language.  I would have to append that a little by saying that it isn’t just about learning a new language, it is more of being immersed in the country of that language and having to figure it out PDQ.  Today I learned that the words “good”, “well”, and “normal” are no longer in my vocabulary.  EVERYTHING must be quantifiable.  And may the Lord strike me down if I ever say that someone has a fever again, from here on out they are febrile.

The positive side of all of this is that immersion in a culture and language is shown to get you up to speed much more quickly than if you were just learning a couple of hours a day.  And no matter how hard it is to wrap my brain around this new way of thinking, I’m so happy and grateful to be here.
